Hi Dennis - firstly thanks for your great DVDs - I have developed into a quite reasonable player as a result of your Technique and Impro set. Just wondering about the Wawau DVD - Is the first part just Wawau playing 33 different tunes without analysis, or does he explain any of it? I'm just thinking that I could watch him do that on Youtube. Otherwise it sounds like I would just be getting 17 Licks from it. Thanks again.

Well there isn't really much to analyze.

The concept behind the "In the style series" (of which this is the first) is a bit different than most traditional instructional videos..

The idea is to put the artist really on the spot and demonstrate his full style by having him play through almost every popular standard and at different tempos.... there is nothing planned out, it's really hundred percent him... so you really get to know the artist so to speak...

and even if you don't sit down and transcribe his solos, you learn by osmosis and it just motivates you to practice...

in the lessons portions, he ll show some of his favorite licks that are unique to him (ie he won't show you a lick that everyone else plays).... and he'll also talk about something that he thinks (rightfully so) is really important: musicality... musicality as a rhythm player and musicality as a soloist (dynamics, ear training, phrasing, etc...)
