I've uploaded some of Denis Chang's new Django tabs. Denis is meticulous when it comes to transcribing, so I'm sure these tabs will be accurate and should keep you busy for a while. Check out our new Downloads section.

HyperHip Media Inc. is proud to be a sponsor of the 2010 Django in June Festival, June 15 to 20 in beautiful Northampton, Mass.

For those of you who haven't attended a DIJ yet, do yourself a favour and try to attend. Festival organizer, Andrew Lawrence has turned this event into the premier East-coast Django Festival. It's one of the most jamming friendly events you can attend. Each day is filled with workshops and the evenings are filled with concerts and jams.

This year's line-up looks great. Whether you're a guitarist, violinist or accordionist, there's something for us all!

• Joscho Stephan, guitar (Germany)
• Biel Ballester, guitar (Spain)
• Gustav Lundgren, guitar (Sweden)
• Aurelien Bouly, guitar (France; Tarne Spilari)
• Gonzalo Bergara, guitar (Argentina via California)
• Tim Kliphuis, violin (Holland)
• Evan Price, violin (Turtle Island Quartet; Hot Club of San Francisco)
• Jimie Masefield, mandolin (Vermont, Jazz Mandolin Project)
• Rob Reich, accordion (San Francisco; Gaucho)
• Martin Sjöstedt, bass (Sweden)

Representing HyperHip Media this year will be the swinging Tim Kliphuis. In addition to being a great performer, Tim is also a great instructor. For those of you who are so inclined, TK jogs every morning. You can join him for some exercise then pick his musical brain in one of his workshops.

The producer, Denis Chang and I, are very happy with the DVDs and hope that many of you will use them to further your Gypsy Jazz education. On a personal note I feel that the combination of Denis' teaching format, coupled with Stochelo's formidable chops and overall musicality should keep you busy for a long, long time.

Django in June 2009 was a big success. Once again Andrew Lawrence pulled off a great event with patience and style! Attendance was high and the concerts were SRO.

Concert highlight for me was Gonzalo Bergara Quartet. Check the youtube clips.

Once again kudos and thanks to Andrew Lawrence.

Just took delivery of the Wawau Adler DVD, "In the Style of Wawau Adler". Click the image to order.

April 29, 2009The Wawau Adler DVD, "In the Style of Wawau Adler" is now in for replication. I'll post notices when the DVDs arrive (expected May 8, 2009).“In The Style Of Wawau Adler” is divided into two parts. In “The Songs”, Wawau and rhythm guitarist Denis Chang demonstrate Wawau’s style at slow, medium and fast tempos on 33 songs in the Django style. The songs were selected to demonstrate all of the common chord changes in the gypsy jazz repertoire. Although there is no tablature of Wawau’s playing, viewers will find much can be learned by simply watching and repeating Wawau’s phrases. Alternate, close-up angles are provided for more in-depth analysis. The second section is “The Lessons” where Wawau gives valuable insight into proper rhythm playing, dynamics, tone control and phrasing. Wawau then demonstrates 17 Licks which the viewer can incorporate into his or her own playing.I've posted several HD clips on www.youtube.com. Here are 3 examples. There are more posted. (check out Wawau's insanely modern intro to Cherokee). Don't forget to click the "HQ" button to watch the clips in High Def mode.Minor Swing Clip 1Cherokee ClipAvalon Clip

Just got back from a week in Montreal. We shot some video of Roumanian virtuoso gypsy violinist Carmen Piculeata on Tuesday and Wednesday. This DVD will deal with traditional gypsy violin techniques. We hope to release this DVD later this year.

Stochelo Rosenberg arrived on Thursday with his manager Ivan and his cousin Manuel. We shot some incredible stuff! What a right hand Stochelo has! Denis thinks I should change the slogan from "Hot Music for Cool People" to
"Just Give Up Now!"

Stochelo's technique is so clean. He articulates so well and so fast! aye carumba!

Denis is an amazing fellow. He knows all of Stochelo's licks. His musical concentration is unbelievable. He can hear the smallest thing. Not just wrong notes, but really subtle points. I'm beginning to suspect that Denis may not be from our planet. Maybe the planet Djanganus?

On Friday and Saturday night Denis' trio played, featuring Stochelo of course, to packed houses and even after a full day of directing, Denis still played amazingly well. I take my hat off to anyone who can trade 8's with Stochelo.

I'll put up some youtube clips so you can judge for yourself.

I've got to start editing now!
